The process to become a board approved licensed therapist takes years to complete!
Abby received her bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College, then graduated with her master’s degree from the University of Virginia, where she completed at least 600 hours in a clinical practicum that focused on diagnostic, prevention, and treatment services.
Abby has been approved by the state board to engage in supervised clinical experience toward the 3,000 hours that are required for her to be eligible to take the board exam in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Currently, Abby is supervised by Maya Arth, LPC.
Hi. Hi there! I'm Abigail Dayton, a resident in counseling with a passion for supporting postpartum mothers who are grieving the loss of their former sense of wellbeing while adjusting to a new identity.
I come to this community with a background in professional school counseling and elementary education . Seeing the lack of social and emotional support mothers receive, my work centers on helping postpartum moms feel less alone as they navigate emotional overwhelm, life transitions, school issues, and the pressure to “do it all.” I use an integrative, evidence-based approach, drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Together, we can focus on clarifying values and understanding the different parts of ourselves that may feel in conflict during the postpartum period. Therapy isn’t about quick fixes or adding more to your to-do list; it’s about creating sustainable change that supports who you are now. I look forward to working with you!
