Taking care of newborns and children is not something new to me nor something I was actively taught. For 20 years, my mother had an at-home daycare business where she was the sole provider of five children at a time, newborns included. Growing up, I’ve witnessed how my mother ran her business in our home and took care of these children with the utmost, nurturing compassion, to the point that she still keeps in touch with these children even 20 years later. This experience allowed me to learn at a very young age from the very best—my mother.
At the age of 8 or 9 years old, I was confidently taking care of infants- feeding, changing, diapering, soothing, and putting babies to sleep. By age 13, my mother’s daycare clients entrusted me to, (on my own!), start taking care of their children, one at a time in the client’s home. Caring for babies has become extremely natural and enjoyable. Watching a child grow before my eyes is something truly miraculous and heart-touching. It is no surprise to me that I ended up on this path of opening Snugglebuds.
My experience did not end in my teenage years. For several years I gained even more experience working as a newborn care specialist. I am now a Registered Nurse, Certified Newborn Specialist and Certified Lactation Counselor. Currently, I am working on my Masters of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner at George Washington University School of Nursing.
