How Will Infertility Counseling Help?

The pain of watching loved ones have what you long for can also be confusing and challenging. At Postpartum Wellness, our expert counselors that understand your pain. We are ready to help you navigate the healing process. In counseling sessions, your infertility therapist will encourage you to share the ways in which your infertility struggle has affected your life. They will deeply listen to your unique experience, validate your feelings and share with you common emotional responses to infertility. You will be encouraged to talk about strains among your friends and family, tensions with your partner, financial concerns, and even trouble at work or within your social life.

Stress and Infertility

Lowering your stress levels is an important part of infertility counseling. Studies have shown that stress actually affects ovulation. Therefore, we will work together to control the stress and anxiety that come with infertility.

Obsessing over what may happen or what might work can lead to feelings of anxiety or depression. You may try to avoid talking about the issue with your partner for fear they will become angry or won’t love you anymore. Maybe sex has lost its spontaneity, and you are worried about how the pressure to perform and keep track of your fertility will impact your physical and emotional intimacy.

Each therapy session is completely confidential.  Postpartum Wellness offers virtual telehealth services.  When needed, we work with your doctor to coordinate your mental health treatment.

WHAT DOES INFERTILITY COUNSELING LOOK LIKE AT POSTPARTUM WELLNESS?

Your first counseling session is called the “intake interview.” At this session, your therapist gets thorough review of your life story and current situation.  It’s important your therapist really understands where you are coming from in order to create a realistic plan to help you move forward.  From there, we meet for regular individual counseling sessions – which is where the real work begins.
