Hello! My name is Zeynep!
I am an intern at Postpartum Wellness and am currently completing my final year of graduate school for social work. I'm especially drawn to this work because I experienced the postpartum period myself as a recent immigrant to the United States during the pandemic. Navigating early motherhood in a new country during a global public health crisis was isolating and overwhelming, and it showed me firsthand just how vulnerable this period can be without community and culturally responsive support close by.
That experience shaped how I understand maternal mental health, deepened my empathy for mothers facing similar circumstances, and solidified my commitment to perinatal mental health, postpartum care, and advocacy for women who too often feel unseen during this stage of life.
Before social work, I spent several years working with United Nations agencies, most recently with the International Organization for Migration in Washington, DC, supporting refugee resettlement, and earlier with Doctors Without Borders on the Syrian border. This past year, I also completed an internship at a residential treatment center, working with adults facing serious mental health challenges, where I gained extensive experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I look forward to supporting you on your journey!
